Jesus said “blessed are the hungry for they shall be filled.” In another place he said “we are to ask and it shall be given unto us, knock and the door will be opened, and if we seek we will find.” Seeking God for something can sometimes be quite discouraging, especially if we are not the waiting kind. However, Jeremiah 29:13 promises “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”.
We can only come to the place of a whole heart if we are desperate and hungry. What does a whole heart look like? I believe it looks like Hannah, Samuel’s mother, who was not ashamed to look undignified in her supplication, to the point of being accused of drunkenness.
And like Jacob who dared to wrestle with a supernatural being (the Angel of the Lord) until he received the desire of his heart, the blessing of the Lord. Even though he was left with a limp, his heart was satisfied. It is a woman seeking justice from a judge and has decided in her heart that she will continue visiting his courtroom until she gets the verdict that she deserves.
“With all your heart” is a sincere heart. It is a heart that is in line with the confession on one’s lips. What I say with my lips is what I believe in my heart. The Lord said that Israel drew near to Him with their lips but their hearts were far from Him. Many are the times that we come to the altar confessing one thing but really believing another in our hearts. If we are going to find the Lord in our search for Him, we have to do so with all of our hearts.
Let us seek the Lord whole heartedly, until he comes and rains righteousness on the earth; until He releases His power in our city and our area of influence.
