Have you ever gotten yourself deep into a do-it-yourself project? Everything is ripped out and taken apart, there are parts and pieces everywhere, and then it hits you. ‘I won’t be able to complete this myself.  I am going to need help.’

There are times in life where the realization that “what I started in my own strength, I cannot finish. In fact, I may have even made things worse.”

King David had one of those moments when he was bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem. He rallied the people, priests, Levites, singers, and musicians to go out and retrieve the Ark of God. They all agreed that it was a good idea.

It started out well; they put the Ark of God on a new cart and were cruising along. But when the oxen stumbled on uneven ground, Uzzah touched the Ark to steady it, and was struck down dead.

King David had asked advice from the people, and gathered all the things he thought he would need to accomplish this task, but he failed to ask God. After searching the scripture, they understood that only the Levites were to carry the Ark. “Because you Levites did not carry the Ark the first time, the anger of the Lord our God burst out against us. We failed to ask God how to move it properly.” (I Chronicles 15:13 New Living Translation)

When King David inquired of the Lord of how to move the Ark of His Presence  properly, they did succeed in bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem. It was a time of unveiled worship before the manifest presence of the Lord that blessed the whole nation of Israel.

Don’t be afraid of going back to His drawing board. David had a good vision, but needed wisdom. The Father will freely give His wisdom to all that ask (James 1:5).

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Message)

Lord help us to always seek Your help and wisdom first, in all that we do, both in the big and small challenges we face everyday. Help us to remember that Your ways are indeed higher than our ways and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
