Driving on an open freeway can be so relaxing until we look in our rear view mirror and see the dreaded flashing lights of the highway patrol. All of a sudden our hearts skip a beat, our attention turns to the speedometer, and we quickly apply our foot to the brake pedal. As the officer tails us and calls on his loud speaker for us to pull over, thoughts race through our mind as we wonder what will happen next. Are we going to receive mercy or a ticket? How much will the ticket cost? We pray for God to show us mercy and promise never to do it again…anyway you get the picture. One authorized to enforce the law (a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority) has just caught us in the act, and we have to yield or face the consequences.
In a similar way, Christians have received authority from the King of all kings and Lord of all lords, the Most High God Himself. A government that is higher and mightier than any in this world. Luke 9:1 and 10:19 show us that King Jesus has given authority to the believer over sickness, diseases and unclean spirits. “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” Luke: 10:19. In this passage, the disciples had just returned a report that even the demons were subject to them in the name of Jesus. To which the Lord replied that he saw satan fall like lightning from heaven. Wow! One can only imagine how shocked the disciples were when they spoke to diseases and unclean spirits to release those they were tormenting and they obeyed.
The Bible tells us that greater is He that is in us than he (satan) that is in the world. We are authorized to pull over unclean spirits, sicknesses and all kinds of diseases and heal all those who are oppressed by the devil! We have been given authority to enforce the will of the Kingdom of heaven on earth. Whatsoever we bind (handcuff or chain) on earth shall be bound in heaven. In the same way that we are to obey the Police when they tell us to put our hands in the air, the enemy has to surrender when we come against him in the Highest name of Jesus and command him to release those he has been oppressing. We don’t struggle in human strength, we simply come in the glorious name of Jesus and the enemy must flee because we are authorized!
