In Luke 4:19, Jesus makes an incredible announcement. He proclaims that it is the year of God’s favor! This time frame covers more than a single year of Christ’s ministry. It includes an extended time frame. In quoting from Isaiah, He stops mid-sentence. In the original text, the sentence is completed with “and the day of vengeance of our God”. Unfortunately, so many people get it reversed. They feel like they live in only a day of favor and a year of vengeance, struggling to regain God’s favor. It’s time to have it correct in our thinking. It’s a year of favor!
Psalm 30:5 affirms, “His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime.” Sometimes we need to be reminded of what is real and true. A year encompasses all seasons – summer, fall, winter, and spring. We need to be reminded that we are still living in the year of God’s favor, even if we experience trials and temptations.
An infusion of grace is coming, a continuous outpouring of undeserved favor and influence of God! John 1:16 tells us that Jesus gave us grace for grace. He gave us something that we could not work or pay for. Giving grace in exchange for grace conveys the idea of continuous replacement, one measure of grace replenishing the other in ever-greater quantities. It just keeps coming!
You are in the year of favor, and it lasts for life! “For he says, ‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor. 6:2) His favor is the environment that you are invited to live in 24/7, 365!
