Unsolicited Christmas Gifts – John Bidaurreta

Have you ever received the perfect Christmas gift without ever asking for it?
When I was 8 years old, I woke up on Christmas morning and found a brand new red Schwinn bicycle. I had outgrown my first kiddie bicycle, and my knees would hit the handlebars as I rode. This bike had already been handed-down a few times in my family. My parents took notice and bought me a brand bicycle, even though I had never specifically asked them for it. They knew my unspoken desire and delivered an awesome present. The fact that I bring it up 27 years later shows you the impact that it had.
In the same way our heavenly Father knows all of our needs and deepest
desires even before we ask Him.

“For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” (Matthew 6:8b)

Just as my parents took notice, your Heavenly Father takes notice of you. He knows what you need even if you aren’t asking for it and it’s not on your prayer list. As we delight ourselves in the Lord, and seek first His Kingdom, He promises to give us all of these things in His perfect timing.

”Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

Just in case we don’t receive everything on our Christmas wish list this year from our friends and family, let’s remember that we have a Father in heaven who gives us what we really need.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that all of your promises are yes and amen, that you have good things in store for your people, and you always deliver on time. Lord Jesus, help us to remember that every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, in whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
