Opportunity in the Storm – Michaela Baltazar

God is always inviting us to experience Him in different ways and to know Him through different circumstances that we face. Whether we are in blessing or in trouble,God wants us to see Him in the midst of our condition. Sometimes if we focus on our negative situations we can let fear takeover, which prevents us from seeing God and how He can move.

24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” Matt. 14:24-26 Water_walk_sutro

While the disciples were in the middle of a storm, Jesus showed up walking on water! But the disciples were too afraid, and they did not recognize who it was.  Sometimes it’s hard to recognize God in the middle of the storms we are in.  We have questions in our minds like “How am I going to survive? How am I going to get through this?” The question we should be asking is “Is that you God? Are you in this?”

27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”
28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”
29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. Matt. 14:27-29

When we are in fear, we miss out on what could have been a life changing experience with God. Fear is a subtle seduction of the enemy, who is stealing our life because we are rocking in the boat of mediocrity, when God wants to bring us to a place of opportunity. Peter saw that opportunity! Out of the twelve, only one had the courage to step out. It was like Peter was saying, “I want to know You in a different dimension!”

Peter began to walk on the water towards Jesus. In obedience to God and in the presence of Jesus Christ, we can do incredible things. We can walk on top of things that other people sink in.

Change your perspective! Do not be afraid, but instead see your troubles as an opportunity to experience God in incredible ways.
