Do you ever find yourself singing the blues? Maybe not literally singing blues songs out loud, but you catch yourself complaining. Maybe just grumbling or whining to those around you. You may even start asking questions like, why me God? Or, what did I do to deserve this? Then eventually you just end up worrying up a storm and meditating on the all the wrong things.
If you are anything like me then you do from time to time catch yourself stuck in one of these places. How do we get unstuck? One thing I have begun to do is to simply follow what it says in Psalm 96 and sing a new song.
Psalm 96
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
This is kind of like when you have a song stuck in your head and you can’t get it out. The only way I know is to start singing a new song. The old song that was stuck is gone and your head is cleared.
So find your favorite worship song and start making a joyful noise unto the Lord and sing it out loud. Declare the goodness of God and truly bless His name in song. Begin to proclaim the good news of salvation and all the ways that the Lord has blessed your life. Make it personal and from the heart. Just sing your song and watch how the blues just go away.
Lord Jesus help us to encourage ourselves in the Lord and truly sing a new song. Help us declare the good news of the Gospel and bless your name. We thank you, that you are always with us. Help us to speak out, and testify of your goodness to all those around us. We make a decision today to focus our thoughts on yo,u meditate on your love.
