Better Than Before – A Chrysalis Moment
This has been a time of massive change for me as a lead pastor. I know that you can relate because it’s likely the same for you in your life, business, or career.
While we can’t wait to worship together in person with our church family and community, we also can’t wait until then to grow, change, and step into what God has for us. I believe that’s true for you too.
This global pause, selah, or sabbath is like a cocoon. From the exterior, a cocoon looks completely stagnant. Nothing appears to be happening on the outside. But on the inside, something amazing is transpiring: metamorphosis.
The caterpillar, that went into the cocoon with one set of abilities, is in a transitional state, undergoing a phenomenal transformation. When it emerges from the shelter of its cocoon, it’s with abilities that it never had before – the ability to fly and travel to places it had never previously dreamed of going.
Before chrysalis, the caterpillar’s range is measured in meters – afterward, a monarch butterfly is known to travel over 3,000 miles!
There’s a great promise in Psalm 66:12 that I hope encourages you in your “chrysalis” season.
We’ve passed through fire and flood, yet in the end, you always bring us out better than we were before, saturated with your goodness.
That’s my prayer and belief – that we will all come through this better than before. Maybe you’ve already been experiencing this. Maybe you can’t see it just yet. Either way now is the time to start to envision being better.
- How will you take flight?
- How are you getting better?
- What kind of new “range” or dexterity is developing in you or the organization that you lead?
The word “selah” in scripture means to pause, but it’s a pause with intention. The full meaning is “pause in His presence”. Let’s do exactly that. Pause in God’s Presence, and let Him breathe hope, life, and joy into you. Ask for wisdom. Embrace change. And get ready to take flight!
